Oh yeah, that part. I’m hoping someone will come along with a list of horrible things you have to keep buying to keep this on the road so I can nod and head back to Toyota.

I recommend this E-350 instead.
parts and maintenance are much cheaper. so what if there’s no wall behind the driver’s seat?

There’s a reason why this is the go-to car for taxi drivers in Europe.

They’re really dead reliable (the W212) , except for the normal “maintenance costs more” issue with German cars. Plenty for around $10-12k. It was on my short list for a long time.
Stay away from the W211, though.

212s are solid cars, I leased 3 of them, virtually zero issues. I’d buy one that passed inspection without much worry. Just watch out for deferred maintenance.

Very commonly used as taxi’s in Europe, often racking up hundreds of thousands of miles. Good cars, will last a long time if its maintained properly.

Quite reliable. I can’t even name a common problem. 212 is the best. Get a pre-purchase inspection and make sure ALL the maintenance has been done on time. And stay away if it's been wrecked.
What year?

Quite reliable.
Ahhh, crap. You were supposed to say, “Nope, these are money pits. I fix them all the time. You’ll be bankrupt in a year.” And I was supposed to nod and close that tab of E350s I’ve been lusting over for the past two days and go back to Corollas.
There are even E550s in my price range so I could have the V8 if I want...
And now there’s one with the most beautiful shade of sky blue I’ve ever seen for sale near me...
2010-2013 is what I’m looking at.

No way! Pre-facelift 212's are my favorite E!
350 is much more reliable than 550. 550 has air suspension and turbos and lots more stuff on it. 550 will be more expensive to own. Great cars, generally decent for reliability, but a much bigger gamble because if something does go it’ll be expensive. The 276 engine is still 300hp.
In that year range, 2012-13 are your best bet. They get the M276 engine. Before that was the M272.
276 has more power and was built to handle turbos. 272 is fine, just, meh; and they have a handful of potential issues that could be annoying. 276 is generally really solid. But again, stay on top of maintenance.
Service is every 10k. I suggest an oil change every 5k if you want the greatest long term reliability. And do not cheap out on oil and filter. I do not know of any aftermarket filters that are as nice as OE.

I have been lusting over the E-250 bluetec. Eve r since I drove one 5 years ago.
Drive 130 miles / day. And I was wondering if I could pick one up from carmax with warranty or CPO with unlimited miles from MB.
Is that a good thing?

Wonderful car. Seriously. Get a third party pre purchase inspection, make sure title and Carfax are clean, make sure service history matches what the book says. When they are not maintained is when they are most likely to develop issues. That and used to just putt around town one or two miles at a time and never warm up. That causes the DPF to load up. DPF and water pump are the most common issues in my experience, but 99% that were done in my shop were done under warranty.
